Website redesign enhances the experience for music creators and users



Gramex is a music copyright organization that ensures fair compensation for music professionals and enables organizations to use music easily and responsibly in their business. We designed and implemented a website redesign for Gramex to streamline the processes for applying for compensation and obtaining music licenses.

UX/UI design brings clarity to user paths

The Gramex website serves two key user groups with distinct needs. Music professionals use the site to claim compensation for the use of their music, while organizations that play music in venues, events, radio, or television seek information on music licenses and direct links to purchase them.

Gramex aimed to provide both groups with clearer user paths and consolidate all essential licensing information in one easily accessible location. Additionally, they wanted to create a well-structured media portal for browsing articles and expert content produced by the organization.

The design phase of the new website was carried out in collaboration with the digital marketing agency Sininen Härkä. Their experts led the initial definition phase with the client, after which the Sofokus design team translated the findings into wireframes and finalized the user experience and interface design. The redesign also incorporated Gramex’s recent rebranding, ensuring the website aligns with its new visual identity and supports the organization’s communication goals.

A WordPress site that adapts to any need

WordPress is a versatile platform suitable for a wide range of content types. Its user-friendly block editor allows the Gramex team to independently create and edit complex pages and blog posts, while new content blocks can be developed quickly and cost-effectively in the future. Additionally, WordPress integrates seamlessly with other Gramex systems, for example, through REST APIs.

Result: more visitors, fewer support requests

The redesigned Gramex website delivers a smooth and intuitive user experience. Both music professionals and license applicants can easily navigate the site and find what they need, thanks to clear user paths. As a result, the demand for personal customer support has decreased.

Website visits increased by 50% in early 2024 compared to the previous year. User feedback on the new site has been positive, with an average rating of 4/5. One standout feature is the GramexPress media, which was redesigned as a fully digital platform. Serving artists and music licensees, the online media has already reached a readership of tens of thousands with its journalistic content.

“It’s great to see our core mission — enabling music professionals to focus on their craft — reflected in the media. But for us, music remains the most important thing,” says Sari Aalto-Setälä, Gramex’s Director of Communications.
